Rubella antibody testing
Men born between 2 April 1962 and 1 April 1980 who hold a coupon can have the antibody test free of charge. A reservation is required, so please call us. If your antibody level is low, you are then eligible for the measles–rubella combined vaccine (MR vaccine); that also needs a reservation, so please get in touch if you would like it.
Cervical cancer (HPV) vaccine
Girls from year 6 of elementary school through year 1 of high school are eligible for the city subsidy. Bear the timing in mind: if you have not started by the summer of high school year 1, you may not complete all three doses within the subsidy.
If you do not have a voucher, call your nearest public health center — Minato City Public Health Center, Prevention Division: 03-6400-0081 (general information: 03-6400-0080). Because of the period during which the Japanese government did not actively recommend the vaccine, an extension for those whose eligibility has lapsed has been decided; please ask the health center about it.
It would be a bitter thing to leave a preventable disease unprevented and see it affect a child's life. In countries further ahead on immunisation, boys have been vaccinated for a long time as well — it prevents oropharyngeal cancer and condyloma acuminatum, and cervical cancer in a partner. In adults, however, that effect is thought not to be as great. In Japan the vaccine was approved for men in 2020, but there is as yet no public funding, so it is self-pay.
Self-pay: Silgard 9 (9-valent) or Gardasil (4-valent) — ¥54,000 for the three-dose course, as published by the clinic. Please confirm the current price when you book.
Varicella (chickenpox) vaccination
¥10,000 — including for situations such as someone in your household having caught chickenpox.

Hospitals we work with
- Tokyo Saiseikai Central Hospital — 1-4-17 Mita, Minato-ku. A nearby core general hospital with an active ER for emergency treatment and investigations. Where a referral to a specialist is needed we refer quickly, and depending on the situation arrange emergency transport.
- Tokyo Yamate Medical Center (formerly Shakai Hoken Chuo General Hospital) — 3-22-1 Hyakunincho, Shinjuku-ku. A pioneering facility for anal care in Japan; the director attends conferences there three times a year, exchanging information and putting it to use in day-to-day practice. We refer patients with anal disease who need admission.
- Teikyo University Hospital — 2-11-1 Kaga, Itabashi-ku. One of the most active emergency and critical care centres in Tokyo, where the director trained; our last resort for transporting emergency patients.
- National Cancer Center Hospital — Endoscopy Center. Referral for capsule endoscopy and other detailed investigation, or treatment requiring admission.
- Makita General Hospital — Department of Anal Surgery, Dr. Rikisaburo Sahara. 8-20-1 Nishikamata, Ota-ku · TEL 03-6428-6500. For anal disease we work with Dr. Sahara, a proctologist of long experience.
- Toho University Medical Center — 6-11-1 Omorinishi, Ota-ku · TEL 03-3762-4151. For anal disease we work with Dr. Akiharu Kurihara, a proctologist of long experience.
